The BASSRIG ’64 Black Panel is, quite simply, a complete vintage bass amp in a pedal. Based on Fender®’s Showman® and Bassman® amplifiers, we have used all-analogue circuitry to recreate a complete valve amp-style signal path, along with an all-analogue cabinet simulator, giving you the drive, grit and articulation of these classic amps in one small box.

Back in the days before modern bass amps, achieving high stage volumes with bass guitar was a challenge that required powerful, clean amps. Nobody fills this niche quite like Fender®. Their high-powered amps – designed with guitar and bass in mind – graced countless stages and studios throughout the 1960s. The Showman®, with its 2×15 cabinets, and the later Bassman® models boast an illustrious list of users between them, including Sir Paul McCartney, Crazy Horse’s Billy Talbot and our own personal favourite, Berry Oakley of The Allman Brothers.

In fact, a whole host of Fenders can be heard amplifying the bass on some of the greatest Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll records of the ‘60s. At Origin Effects, we believe that this boundary-pushing era has given us some of history’s best bass tones.

THE DETAILS:

The BASSRIG ’64 Black Panel uses the same ground-breaking circuitry found in our other Analogue Amp Recreation pedals, replicating the entire signal path of the Showman® and delivers all the tone shaping, drive and character of this historic amp with stunning realism.

The FAT switch takes things into Bassman® territory, replacing the Showman®’s tight low end with a deeper, squishier bass response. For an even dirtier breakup, switching from BLK to TWD harks back to the Tweed era, with thick midrange and raucous overdrive.

We’ve also added a BLEND knob, which mixes in some of your clean signal in parallel with the pedal’s emulated amp circuit. This control can add some subtle, low-end clarity or be used to create massive bi-amp-style overdrive tones.

The balanced DI output on the BASSRIG ’64 Black Panel is equipped with an all-analogue simulation of Fender® ’s 2×15 bass speaker cabinet – essential to the ‘60s Black Panel sound. You can select whether the cabinet simulator is always active or only on when the pedal is engaged, meaning you can use the BASSRIG to add cabinet simulation to other pedals or keep an unaffected DI signal when the pedal is in bypass.

Our proprietary Amp Out EQ lets you tailor the BASSRIG’s ¼” Amp Out, so you never have to compromise your amp settings to flatter the pedal or vice versa. With LF and HF trimmers, as well as a HORN CUT switch, this post-drive filter can fatten up small combos, tame boominess in big cabs prevent harshness with tweeter-equipped rigs. This allows you to match your on-stage sound to your DI signal, balance your clean and overdriven tones or compensate for ever-changing backline amps.

Housed in a hand polished, brushed stainless steel enclosure and furnished with aluminium controls, Neutrik® jack sockets and heavy-duty footswitch, the BASSRIG ’64 Black Panel is equally at home on the road and in the studio.

Please note: the BASSRIG is powered by a mains adaptor only (not included). We’ve dispensed with the usual 9V battery option, both to save space and to allow us to adopt a high-current approach, yielding lower noise levels and superior tone.

Origin Effects pedals are designed to deliver impeccable performance using a range of power supplies. We recommend you only use a regulated power supply specifically designed for guitar pedal applications as power supplies which do not have sufficient internal filtering can result in unwanted noise.

We recommend the following power supplies for use with our pedals:

This product should only be operated at 9V. The design employs a voltage doubling circuit to achieve higher internal voltages for improved sonic performance.

Fender Santa Ana Overdrive V2

Santa Ana V2 is a JFET-based class-A overdrive pedal running at 18V internally — a design that provides the touch sensitivity and high-headroom drive that players expect from a Fender tube amp pushed hard and then some. At its heart, this dual-voice drive circuit sports three straightforward controls and a Voice switch to push your guitar from natural-sounding tight overdrive (voice A) to smooth, thick lead tones (voice B). The Drive and Tone controls provide a wide range to dial in just the right flavor of gain and treble presence in the drive signal, while the rear-mounted Tight switch pulls some pre-drive bass frequencies out for an even more focused feeling drive. To further sculpt the frequency response of your drive, a standalone, independently switchable 3-band EQ circuit is built around the Santa Ana V2 drive engine. Active Bass, Middle, and Treble controls offer a wide range of adjustment, cutting or boosting each frequency range with a center detent to mark flat response. Determine exactly how the EQ circuit interacts by using the EQ Placement switch to stack the EQ before or after the drive: Pre-drive EQ flavors the overdrive’s response by determining which frequencies are clipped most by the drive circuit; post-drive EQ lets your guitar hit the drive head on and shapes the resulting gain tones for a more dramatic EQ effect. With a fine-tuned JFET drive engine, independent EQ circuit, conveniently switchable buffered and true bypass modes, and multiswitch enabled footswitches for momentary and latching activation, the Santa Ana V2 is an ultra-flexible, intuitive overdrive with tons of tones on tap.

Fender Pugilist Distortion V2

The Pugilist V2 is a distortion pedal like no other, wielding dual independent distortion engines packed inside one chassis to crank out a wealth of thick tones. Each distortion engine can be turned on separately using its designated footswitch and dialed in using its own Gain, Tone and Level controls. This provides two distinctively flavored distortion voices, with Engine A delivering treble-rich lead drive tones and Engine B laying on thick, heavier distortion. The real magic of Pugilist V2 is in the Path switch, which runs the two distortion engines through three different signal paths as they push each other into harmonically rich saturation. The two Series Modes send one circuit into the other for stacking drive tones that can be layered like amp channels, using the footswitches to kick into the next level of cascading distortion. An intuitive compressor/boost combo offering low-noise compression in both modern and vintage tube flavors, the Bends V2 is ideal for guitar and bass alike. Utilizing a unique take on OTA technology for real-time gain control, this compressor reacts to your playing dynamics smoothly and naturally to balance the volume of louder and quieter sections while adding sustain and thickness to your notes. The Bends V2 simplifies compression to three clearly labeled controls — a three-speed Attack switch, a fine-tuned Release control, and an Input control which sets the input level of the compression trigger. An active Tone control with a center detent cuts or boost treble to make up for any lost sparkle, and the Blend control injects clean into the mix to provide the perfect balance of clean dynamics and compression.
