FUNK IT UP

Dig into your groove with a full, player-friendly suite of controls to shape every detail of your bass synth tone. The Sub Mix knob sets how much of the sub octave is blended with the main synth signal so that you can go as fat and low as you want. The Mod knob brings shimmering liquid tones, from subtle, musical motion to bold, mind-bending pulses—while the Envelope knob sets the filter response from rubber band bounce to slow, syrupy sweeps. Mix, Cutoff, and Resonance knobs help you dial in the perfect tone and feel for your setup—blend dry and wet signals, set filter cutoff frequency, and boost that frequency for extra punch.

Finally, the Voice button adds additional harmonically tuned oscillators for more complex tones while the Shape button selects your preferred waveform: smooth and subtle triangle, rich and aggressive sawtooth, or fat and punchy square.

PRE-FUNK

If you want to skip the set up and get right down to it, then we have eight different presets designed by Ian Martin Allison to plug you straight into the groove. Each is inspired by classic synth tones, from those heard on Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and Herbie Hancock’s “Chameleon” to Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” and Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole.” Cycling through them is as simple as pressing the Preset button.

For the true bottomologists out there, the MXR Bass Synth features a number of additional parameters, from oscillator and modulation mix to compression and tracking style. You can also run the pedal in stereo output mode, use an off-board switch such as the MXR Split + Tap or Tap Tempo Switch to cycle presets, use a Volume(X)^™ Series Pedal to blend setting configurations, and more.

Fender Santa Ana Overdrive V2

Santa Ana V2 is a JFET-based class-A overdrive pedal running at 18V internally — a design that provides the touch sensitivity and high-headroom drive that players expect from a Fender tube amp pushed hard and then some. At its heart, this dual-voice drive circuit sports three straightforward controls and a Voice switch to push your guitar from natural-sounding tight overdrive (voice A) to smooth, thick lead tones (voice B). The Drive and Tone controls provide a wide range to dial in just the right flavor of gain and treble presence in the drive signal, while the rear-mounted Tight switch pulls some pre-drive bass frequencies out for an even more focused feeling drive. To further sculpt the frequency response of your drive, a standalone, independently switchable 3-band EQ circuit is built around the Santa Ana V2 drive engine. Active Bass, Middle, and Treble controls offer a wide range of adjustment, cutting or boosting each frequency range with a center detent to mark flat response. Determine exactly how the EQ circuit interacts by using the EQ Placement switch to stack the EQ before or after the drive: Pre-drive EQ flavors the overdrive’s response by determining which frequencies are clipped most by the drive circuit; post-drive EQ lets your guitar hit the drive head on and shapes the resulting gain tones for a more dramatic EQ effect. Fender Pugilist Distortion V2

The Pugilist V2 is a distortion pedal like no other, wielding dual independent distortion engines packed inside one chassis to crank out a wealth of thick tones. Each distortion engine can be turned on separately using its designated footswitch and dialed in using its own Gain, Tone and Level controls. This provides two distinctively flavored distortion voices, with Engine A delivering treble-rich lead drive tones and Engine B laying on thick, heavier distortion. The real magic of Pugilist V2 is in the Path switch, which runs the two distortion engines through three different signal paths as they push each other into harmonically rich saturation. The two Series Modes send one circuit into the other for stacking drive tones that can be layered like amp channels, using the footswitches to kick into the next level of cascading distortion.
