DiMarzio PAF Joe Black
The PAF Joe™ is the latest neck pickup we developed for Joe Satriani. Joe wanted a neck position humbucker that combined the best qualities of the PAF Pro® with those of a late 50s Gibson® humbucker. Joe describes this tone as being “tubular”. Through the use of Virtual Vintage® technology, clear-sounding low frequencies are blended with warm-sounding mids and high frequencies, which makes the PAF Joe™ equally good for chords and single notes. Joe first used it throughout the 2003 G3 tour.

With slightly hotter output than typical vintage pickups and a powerful combination of magnets, these sonically potent and highly dynamic pickups produce the perfect balance of clean, dirty rhythm and lead tones to satisfy all level of players, through any amplifier. The neck pickup is based on a '54 Strat pickup with oversized alnico 3 magnets. The middle pickup, based on a '63 Strat pickup, uses specially treated alnico magnets and is reverse wound to cancel hum when used with the neck or bridge pickup. Lollar CTS 500K Split Shaft Short
Custom built to Lollar specs, these CTS potentiometers have more consistent values and a unique taper at our request. When rolling off the knob, you'll find more available range of adjustment before the end of the sweep, compared to most other potentiometers, offering smoother swells with more usable throw on the knob's turn. And the tighter tolerances (+/- 10%) mean greater consistency so you can rest assured you'll get the sound that you expect from the potentiometer value that you choose. Lollar Shim Pack for Dogear
The exact set of the neck can vary from guitar to guitar so there is no way of knowing exactly what thickness of shim(s) your guitar will need until you've got the instrument on the work bench.
Our best recommendation is to use our shim pack, which contains the six most commonly used shims, plus two oversized shims for use in humbucker-size routs. Shims can be stacked to achieve a variety of heights.
